Bong Hun (Respectful Offering)

Every morning and evening, we burn candles and incense to Buddha, and bow to the three treasures of our mind: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, building virtue that we can use forever.

 Namu Kwan Seum Bosal (Bow)

We pray for the happiness of our country’s people and for the good fortune of the Sangha, in everything that issues from our mind. May every life find us in a bright and good place, wherever we are born.  May we always be with wisdom and never divide ourselves.  The Dharmakaya of Annutara Samyak Sambodhi; the Sambhogakaya of virtue; the supreme Prajna of Mun su Bodhisattva; the supreme activity of Bo Hyun Bodhisattva; the boundless body of Ji jang Bodhisattva; the greatest compassion of Kwan Yin Bodhisattva.  There is no world without them.

 Namu Kwan Seum Bosal (Bow)

May all sentient beings attain the highest boundless Dharma.  May anyone of suffering mind, who hears my name, be released from hell.  May those who see my form be free of samsara altogether.  In this way, we vow to save all sentient beings forever.  Until we reach the end of beings and of Buddhas too. The great world Nirvana.  We call all Dharma protectors. Help us attain this Bodhi mind! Let us transform every difficulty and achieve our most serious desire!

 Namu Kwan Seum Bosal (Bow)

The Heart Sutra (in English)

The venerable Bodhisattva, Kwan Seum, performing his meditation in the deep Prajna Paramita, thought thus, there are five thieves and these by their nature are empty.   Sarija, form is emptiness and emptiness is form.  Emptiness is not different from form and form is not different from emptiness.  What is form is emptiness; what is emptiness is form.  The same is true of perception, name, conception and knowledge. Sarija, all things have the character of emptiness.  They have no beginning and no end.  They are not pure, neither are they impure.  They do not decrease, neither do they increase.

Namu Amita Bul

Therefore, Sarija, in emptiness there is no form, no perception, no name, no concepts, no knowledge ---no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind.  No form, sound, smell, taste, touch, attachment.  No world of sight- no world of consciousness.  No ignorance and no end to ignorance.  No old age and death and no end to old age and death.  No suffering, accumulation, destruction, no way.  No wisdom and no gain, no gain and thus, the Bodhisattva lives by Prajna Paramita With no hindrance in the mind - no hindrance therefore, no fear.  Far beyond mistaken fantasy.  At last there is Nirvana.

Namu Amita Bul

All past, present and future Buddhas live by Prajna Paramita.  And therefore, receive the highest, most perfect enlightenment.  Therefore, know, the Prajna Paramita is the Great Mantra, the Vivid Mantra, the Highest Mantra, the Incomparable Mantra.  It completely clears all pain- this is true and not false.  So set forth the Prajna Paramita Mantra, Set forth this Mantra and say:

A che, A che, Bara A che, Bara Sung A che, Bodhi Svaha!  (Repeat three times).

The Great Dharani of Compassion

In Buddhism, the Great Dharani is a sacred Sanskrit phrase of great value.  It is used as a verbal protective device or talisman and is considered a strong tool for use in concentration of mindfulness prior to Zazen.

The Four Great Bodhisattva Vows

Sentient beings are numberless, I vow to save them

Desires are inexhaustible, I vow to put an end to them

The Dharmas are boundless, I vow to master them

The Buddha Way is unsurpassable, I vow to attain it

(Repeat the four vows three times)

The Evening Gatha

Let me respectfully remind you, life and death are of supreme importance.  Time swiftly passes by, and opportunity is lost.  Each of us should strive to awaken… Awaken.  Take heed; do not squander your life.
